FAQ

What should I keep in mind when buying antique jewellery?

First of all, buying an antique jewel is effectively buying a piece of portable history. An antique item will most likely be more fragile than its modern counterpart. Wearing an antique jewel is an unique experience, but should be done with care and attention.

In the past, jewellery was not worn around the clock like we do nowadays. Most antique jewellery is therefore not suitable to wear day and night. A good rule of thumb when wearing antique jewellery is that it should be the last item you put on when leaving the house, and the first item you take off.

Each item that is offered has been checked to make sure it reaches you in the best condition possible. All gemstones are checked by a goldsmith to ensure they are secure in their settings and each item has received a gentle clean.

How do you date antique jewellery?

All items are dated by information provided from their previous owner: if no information was available, items will be dated based on a combination of the design, make and materials used.

Since jewellery doesn't talk, it is not always possible to date pieces exactly. If the term 'circa' is used, this will mean that this piece is typical of that time period, but it does not mean it was made in that exact year.

Do you have a brick and mortar store?

21stFinds operates as an online platform and does not have a brick and mortar store. However, I can meet up with potential clients who would like to see their dream piece in real life before making a purchase within the Dutch Amersfoort area. Feel free to reach through the contact form if you would like to set up an appointment.

Do you offer layaway?

Lay away is indeed available: you can read more about this one this page

Can you resize a ring for me? Or help me convert a brooch into a pendant?

21stFinds works with a bench jeweller with a lot of experience handeling antique items. Therefore, in a lot of cases it will indeed be possible to have items altered upon purchase. Feel free to reach out with your wishes via the contact form.

Please be aware that returns on items that have been altered are not accepted unless agreed upon before purchase. Therefore sometimes it might be a better option to purchase an item first to see if you love it, and have it resized or altered locally.

Can you sell an item for me?

Currently, I do not sell jewellery on commission. Your best option to sell a piece of antique jewellery will in most cases be via a local auction house or jewellery shop.

Can you help me find a specific dream piece?

But of course! I handle antique jewellery daily and see a lot of items that don't end up in this shop. Therefore, if you would like me to look for a specific piece of jewellery, please do not hesitate to get in touch via the contact form.
