This 18kt gold horseshoe pendant has been converted from a brooch. A tiny bale was added at the back at an angle, which makes the shoe turn op slightly vertical when worn.
It is made from brushed rose gold, with white gold accents. It is set with seven small brilliant-cut diamonds, which have an estimated combined weight of 0.20 carats.
The horseshoe is an ancient good luck symbol, going as far back as Roman times. The origin of the horseshoe as a symbol of luck is linked to several myths and legends: the hoofed devil was said to have donned horseshoes and was told never to enter a home with a horseshoe above the door. Witches were believed to fear horses, so hanging a horseshoe warded them off.
Over time, the symbol turned into an internationally recognized lucky charm symbol. Most people like to wear the shoe with the ends up, so the luck can not ‘run out of the shoe’.
