This 14k yellow gold horseshoe pendant is centered by a round cabochon-cut natural emerald with an approximate weight of 4.50 carats. Under a microscope, it shows signs of an oil treatment, which was done to enhance its clarity and colour. The design is completed by six tiny old-cut diamonds.
The horseshoe is an ancient good luck symbol, going as far back as Roman times. The origin of the horseshoe as a symbol of luck is linked to several myths and legends: the hoofed devil was said to have donned horseshoes and was told never to enter a home with a horseshoe above the door. Witches were believed to fear horses, so hanging a horseshoe warded them off.
Over time, the symbol turned into an internationally recognized lucky charm symbol. Some people like to wear the shoe with the ends up, so the luck can not ‘run out of the shoe’. In other cases, like this one, the horseshoe is positioned similar to a magnet, intended to draw luck in!
