This hip flask is perfect to take your favourite beverage with you at all times!
The cap has to be twisted before you open it, creating an air-tight closure. The body of the flask is partially clad in leather, which prevents it from slipping from your hands in cold conditions: an opening in the leather helps determine how full the flask is.
At the bottom of the flask, you'll find a removable cup, engraved with the monogram 'UW' or 'WU'.
The hallmarks on both items tell us that the cup is older than the flask, which therefore was replaced at some point in history. The original owner might have lost his flask, but a different explanation is that this example has a better closure than late 19th Century flasks, which often still were fitted with an extra internal stopper.
