This rectangular silver card holder with lobed sides has an elaborate engraved pattern of square and hexagonal shaped panels on the front and back.
Calling card holder was an important part of social life in the 19th Century. Calling cards were used to make appointments and plan parties, and were handed out at the front of an entrance when making a visit. Nowadays, its size makes it suitable to use as a creditcard holder, used to store business cards.

Dimensions: 95 x 70 x 8 mm.
The inner dimensions are 90 x 68 x 6 mm.
Material and Age: Hallmarked for 925 silver, and made in Birmingham, 1875. It carries the maker's mark 'F.M.', used by the jeweler Frederick Marson.
Condition: in great antique condition with only minor wear, consistent with its age.
