This adorable novelty brooch depicts a tiny jumping frog. Its body is set with round-cut demantoid garnets and rose-cut diamonds.
Little novelty brooches displaying animals or objects were very popular in the last quarter of the 19th Century.
A similar brooch is depicted in: French Jewelry of the Nineteenth Century, Henri Vever, translated by Katherine Purcell, Thames & Hudson, London, 2001, p. 1056.
