This little flower brooch is known as a 'lace pin' and was used to pin a scarf or stole to a lady's dress to cover up her modesty. The pin is a lot longer than the brooch fitting and would be tucked into the fabric, ensuring it could not slip off unnoticed.

The flower is made up of a rose-cut diamond center, encircled by six table-cut diamonds, all of a beautiful, clear quality. The central stone has an estimated weight of 0.65 carats, and the estimated combined of all diamonds combined is circa 1.25 carats.

The diamonds are placed in silver, open settings, allowing light to pass through the stones. Traditionally, diamonds were set in silver since it optimizes their colour and brilliance, but the rest of the jewel would be made from gold to prevent the silver from tarnishing and staining skin or clothing.
