This tiny carved coral hand, which originally dangled from a brooch, was worn as a lucky charm. It is clasping an equestrian whip, ready to chase the devil and bad spirits away.
In Greek mythology, coral was formed by the tears of Medusa, and it was therefore seen as a powerful talisman. In Medieval times, Christians also appreciated this material, believing that its red colour was a symbol of the blood of Christ. Wearing coral as a lucky charm therefore has been done for millennia, and gifting coral was seen as showing your care and appreciation for the wearer.
This pendant is currently offered without a necklace. Feel free to contact me if you would like to add one to your order since I have several matching options in stock.
