This pendant is shaped like an empty bird cage and is set with a two-toned agate at the bottom, which is engraved with an intaglio of the initials 'ML' in mirror image, so it can be used to create a seal in hot wax.
In Old Master paintings, an empty bird cage often signified lost virginity! In other contexts however, an empty bird cage was used as a symbol of liberation, freedom and hope.
