This rare and unusual bracelet was made in Italy in the second half of the 19th Century.
The body of this impressive sea monster is carved out of individually carved coral beads that represent his scales, a horny ridge, and a very expressive face with angry, upwards-looking eyes and an open mouth. All coral elements are threaded on a metal frame that wraps around your wrist, making the monster appear to cling to your wrist.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Size: Flexible size, best suitable for a small to medium sized wrist: for reference, my wrist seen in the pictures is 6 inches / 15.25 cm. I would suggest adding a little extra closure on the back of the tail to ensure it will remain on your wrist securely. Feel free to reach out to discuss this option prior to purchase.
Weight: 16.25 grams.
Age: 19th Century, circa 1860s.
Material: Coral with a base metal spiral core.
Condition: The bracelet is in good antique condition with signs of use, consistent with its age. There are several chips on the coral beads and head. The internal spring is still working but has lost some of its flexibility, therefore I would add an extra security link at the back of the tail if you want to wear it frequently.
