This Victorian album was purchased to collect monograms - mostly found on monogrammed writing paper. This was a fairly popular pastime in the late 19th Century, but not that many albums have survived the ages.
The album has 14 spreads (two facing pages) of different colours, which have little frames behind which the monograms can be placed.
A previous owner clearly collected with great intend since a lot of the pages are filled with their collection. This collector strictly followed a colour scheme to enter each monogram and created a visually pleasing display. There are however also still empty spots and even a few completely empty spreads.
