The navette style, also is also known as a marquise, optically elongates the finger, thereby looking gorgeous on any hand. The name derives from the French and means 'little boat', and it indeed looks like a rowing boat seen from above. This ring design was very popular during the last years of the 19th Century, the period we now call the Victorian and Belle Epoque era.
This particular example is made from 14k yellow gold and centered by an oval, cabochon-cut turquoise, encircled by eighteen small rose-cut diamonds. All diamonds have been placed in open settings, allowing light to pass through the stones.
