This chic letter opener was made in 1913 from 925/1000 silver by the British jeweler William Hornby. Its handle is decorated with pink guilloché enamel with a yellow underlay, which gives a beautiful, almost golden effect when turned around.
Guilloché is a decorative technique in which a repeating pattern is mechanically engraved into silver before it is covered by a layer of translucent enamel. This creates an interesting pattern that seems to shimmer through the enamel layer.
