This pear-shaped pomander is made from silver and enamel throughout in bright colours, depicting two romantic scenes. It was made by Simon Grünwald (1867-1922), a famed Viennese goldsmith who won several awards for his delicately enameled objects.
Inside the pomander is a little open-worked lid, behind which a little perfumed sponge would be placed, ensuring that the wearer always had a nicely smelling object with her.
