This pressed horn round trinket box was used as a lovely little gift in the late 18th Century. The top lid has a round glass panel, beneath which is a wreath of brass elements and a hexagonal plaque with a depiction of a child, who is crowning two hearts on a plinth and holding a shield that reads: 'l'amitié les Couronne', French for 'friendship crowns them'. This little box was therefore likely either a betrothal or wedding gift and celebrated two hearts united. The lid is further decorated with a row of shimmering dots, likely made of brass.
Age: late 18th Century, circa 1790s.
Dimensions: 70 mm diameter / 24 mm high.
Condition: In good antique condition, with some wear, consistent with its age. A few of the round dots on top of the lid are missing, and the inside decoration has some parts missing and patina.
