This large statement ring is set with a convex blue enamel panel, centered with a silver flower vase, encrusted with rose-cut diamonds. The blue panel is encircled by a row of rose-cut diamonds in open settings.
Large panel rings like these were very popular in the late 18th Century, when jewelry was opulent, outspoken, and designs were often studded with numerous rose-cut diamonds. These panel rings were very large, filling the space between two knuckles, and were most often worn on the index finger, where they stand out even more.
This enchanting flower design is also known as a 'Giardinetti', which means tiny garden in Italian. It is a remnant of a major trend in jewellery in the second half of the 18th Century when ladies and gentlemen would gift each other tiny flower jewellery as a token of friendship and devotion. This trend is believed to have been brought to Paris by Venetian goldsmiths, hence the Italian name.
