This lyre-shaped brooch is studded with 26 rose-cut diamonds of various sizes in closed, silver settings. It has a little bale on top, meaning that it could easily be worn as a pendant too.
The lyre is one of the oldest instruments played by mankind. Historically, the lre has been associated by two mythological figures that were associated with their musicality: the god Apollo, and the mortal hero Oprheus. Because of this, the lyre evolved in a more broader sense as a symbol of music and musicality, and was therefore often depicted in 19th Century art and design.
