This lucky nail bar brooch is made from 18k yellow gold with a brushed finish, accented with three silver elements, studded with tiny rose-cut diamonds.
Equestrian lucky jewels with either horseshoe's, horseshoe nails or a combination of these symbols were worn quite often in the late 19th and early 20th Century. These jewels were not only a beautiful fashion statement, but also served as a lucky token.
The horseshoe and horseshoe nails are ancient symbols for good luck, going as far back as Roman times. The origin of the horseshoe as a symbol of luck is linked to several myths and legends: the hoofed devil was said to have donned horseshoes and was told never to enter a home with a horseshoe above the door. Witches were believed to fear horses, so hanging a horseshoe warded them off. Over time, these symbols turned into internationally recognized lucky charms.
