The front of this 14k yellow gold ring is set with a cluster of rose-cut diamonds in various sizes, ranging from 4,5 to 1 mm, which have been placed in silver settings. Traditionally, this was done because silver helps to bring out the colour and brilliance of the diamonds, while the gold back prevents the silver from tarnishing and potentially staining skin or clothing.
Each rose-cut diamond has been placed in a closed setting with a tiny piece of foil behind it: at the back of the ring, this can still be observed. The foil acted as a little mirror, reflecting light through the flat bottom of the rose-cut, and optimizing its brilliance even further.

Material: Hallmarked for 14k gold and 835 silver.
Condition: In good antique condition with some wear, consistent with its age. One of the tiny diamonds at the bottom was replaced in the past with a tiny brilliant-cut diamond: because it matches very well in the current cluster and is not very noticeable, I have decided to leave it as is.
