What I would give to be able to offer you this box with its original content ;)!
This large jewellery box has a red leather lined exterior with gold detailing, and a cream-coloured suede and silk interior. It originally held a parure of jewels, consisting of a tiara, necklace, earrings, and buttons.
The box originally closed with three clasps: the one in the front center has broken off, both clasps on the sides are still in working order.
The top of the box has an antique sticker, reading '51', probably relating to an inventory system: to me, it is a tantalizing idea that there must have been at least 50 other jewellery boxes in this unknown original collection!
A similar box can be found in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, object number BK-1978-886-5.
