This swivel fob seal originally hung from an unknown gentleman's watch chain. Its seal is made from moss agate and has been carved with two intaglio's on either side.
One side depicts the family crest of the original owner, which has a skull at its center, two anchors on the shield, and is topped by an anchor too - which makes me fantasize that he had pirates in his family tree :)!
The other half is inscribed with an intricately carved monogram which I believe to read 'BL'. The monogram is displayed on a shield, which rests against a tree stump with twigs. This trunk represents the brevity of life, while the new twigs are a symbol of determination and growth, and also often represented the continuation of a family line.
Next to the tree stands a column, the symbol of strength and fortitude. The trunk and seal are crowned by several branches of flowering roses, which are the symbol of love.
