This oval pendant has been converted from a stickpin. It shows a tiny painted miniature of a lady - likely Venus - showing an oval plaque that is standing on a plinth to Cupid. The plaque reads 'Un Seul Un Suffit' which is French for 'Just One is Enough'. Next to Cupid is a little dog, the symbol of faithfulness. The miniature is surrounded by a border of seed pearl beads.
It is highly likely that this jewel was originally gifted as a love token, to commemorate either an engagement or marriage. There is a little hinge at the back, which means that the back originally could be opened to add a personal memento. This is however no longer in working order.
