This cameo ring is set with a hardstone cameo that depicts a lady, whom I was not able to identify, and is displayed 'en profil'. She is wearing a veil which falls behind her, but the portrait also show us that she wears her hair partially up, with decorative braids. She is clothed in a cloak, which is fastened on her shoulder.
This cameo was originally set in a yellow gold mount, and the rim of this setting is still present. It is currently set in a rose gold ring mount, which was created in the 18th Century.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Size: The ring shank is currently open and will be repaired upon purchase, after you have given me the ring size you would like it to become. The ring can be sized between a US 6 to 8 52 to 57 mm circumference).
The setting measures 30 x 20 x 8 mm.
Weight: 10.80 grams
Age: The ring shank was created in the 18th Century, also known as the Georgian era, circa 1780s. The cameo itself is possibly older.
Hallmarks: The ring acid tests as at least 10k gold: Please note that this is below the legal gold grade in some countries.
Condition: In antique condition with signs of wear and repair. The nose of the cameo was missing and was carefully restored using epoxy resin. This resin is as hard as the hardstone itself, so the ring can be worn with the same care you would need to take for a high-relief cameo like this example. There is a crease running on the neck of the lady, which is not a break but a natural line in the mineral itself. The ring mount is currently open, this will be repaired upon purchase. There is a tear on the side of the setting: this can be seen in the fourth picture.
Please note that the antique box is for display purposes only.
