This cut-steel girdle is a very rare example of Georgian fashion: I have not encountered a similar one in all my years of dealing! It is made up of alternating rounds and squares, which are connected by two chains.

Cut-steel was a novelty material in the 18th Century. Tiny steel rivets would be polished and hammered into place individually to create a bright sparkle, faintly mirroring the appearance of diamonds. Since these rivets are made from steel, a lot of jewels from this period have unfortunately been damaged by rust, making antique cut-steel jewels quite difficult to find.
