This 18k yellow gold case was part of the daily 'toilet' of items used by a well-to-do lady. It was used to store bodkins, which are thick and blunt needles with a large eye, used for drawing tape or cord through a hem.
It has a tapering rectangular form with beautifully chased foliate decoration on a matted background, which is typical for the fashions of the early 19th Century.

The inside is hallmarked with a 'tete du coq' hallmark for 18k gold, telling us it was made in France between 1798 and 1819.
Age: Early 19th Century, also known as the Georgian era, circa 1800.
