This 18k yellow gold horseshoe pendant was converted from an antique stickpin.
It is shaped like a horseshoe and decorated with robin's egg blue enamel, and eight cushion-cut diamonds of various sizes.
The horseshoe is an ancient good luck symbol, going as far back as Roman times. The origin of the horseshoe as a symbol of luck is linked to several myths and legends: the hoofed devil was said to have donned horseshoes and was told never to enter a home with a horseshoe above the door. Witches were believed to fear horses, so hanging a horseshoe warded them off.

Material: The original stickpin was hallmarked with a French eagle's head for 18k gold.
Condition: In great antique condition with only minor signs of wear, consistent with age. The enamel has some minor flaws but is all in all in good condition. The bale was added by my jeweler.
