This long, silver lavalier necklace adds a little splash of colour to any outfit. The top part of its integrated pendant is made from five round-cut amethysts in bezel settings, with two chains suspending from two of the middle bezels. On these two chains dangles a sixth round-cut amethyst, which suspends a briolette-cut amethyst. The colour of the amethysts varies slightly, from a bright lilac to a deeper purple.
The term ‘lavalier necklace’ comes from the Duchesse de la Vallière, a mistress of King Louis XIV of France (1754-1793), who famously wore this style and created a craze for this design in the late 18th Century. They are characterized by a pendant or drop that is the central part of the necklace, rather than forming a separate part of the necklace.
