This crossover brooch is made from 14k gold and silver. I love how it is designed with the central gemstones slightly off-center, which creates a more interesting design than if it were statically symmetrical. Traditionally, diamonds were set in silver to enhance their colour and brilliance, while the gold back would prevent the silver from tarnishing and staining skin or clothing.
The center is set with an old mine-cut diamond of circa 0.35 carats and a natural pink cushion-cut sapphire of circa 0.40 carats. The design is completed by fourteen small old mine-cut diamonds of ascending sizes, which are set in each 'wing'. All gemstones have been placed in closed settings, allowing light to pass through them.
