The design of this silver gilded lavalier necklace is very typical for the early years of the 20th Century, the period that we now call the Belle Epoque period (circa 1910s).
Lavalier necklaces are characterized by a pendant or drop which is not attached by a bale but is the center part of the necklace. These types of necklaces were made popular by the Duchesse de la Vallière, a mistress of King Louis XIV of France.
The pendant is set with an emerald-cut citrine, measuring 20 x 16 mm and weighing an estimated 21 carats. The drop is made from a briolette-cut citrine, which measures 17 x 7 mm.
