This beautifully executed pendant depicts the head of a horse, with his mouth wide open and his eyes raised to the sky. It is completed by an 18k yellow jump ring.
It was likely made in 19th Century Italy as a Grand Tour souvenir. The most beautiful coral was during this century found in the Mediterranean sea, and specialized coral carvers in both the Naples region and Rome specialized in creating coral jeweller, often inspired by ancient Roman examples.
