This round sterling silver bowl on a raised foot is also known as a compote. It can be used for many purposes, including a temporary storage place for your jewellery!
The bowl stands on an open-worked base, decorated with a foliage design. It has two handles made up of graduating spheres, which emulate fruit.
The design of the bowl is very typical for Danish design silver of the 1960s, yet the base is clearly stamped 'Cartier'. It was not uncommon for this famous jeweler of Parisian origin to outsource the design and manufacture of silver items they sold to external workshops or craftsmen, whilst keeping creative control and monitoring the high standards in all of the work which carry the Cartier name.
