This dainty yellow gold ring is centered by an agate with two coloured layers, which carries an intaglio depicting a budding flower. Since before the 19th Century, flowers were often used to convey meaning or symbolism. A budding flower is used as the symbol of hope and a new beginning.
An intaglio is a technique in which a picture is carved into a hard material, often a mineral such as agates. Intaglio have been made for millennia, with the earliest examples made by the Sumerian culture in 5000 bc. In this particular example, the bottom has a red colour, and the top is white which appears blueish-white due to the bottom layer affecting the colour.
