This bar brooch is centered by an oval bloodstone plaque, depicting a sitting whippet, which raises one of its paws.
The back of the setting has an engraved crest, which might mean that this brooch was originally worn by someone from a noble family.
Bloodstone is the trade name for the mineral heliotrope, and has this name because the dark green material is speckled with red inclusions.
