This platinum ring is set with six Old European-cut diamonds and four rose-cut diamonds, all placed in a marquise setting, which is set with a border of calibrated emeralds. The side of the setting is engraved with a floral pattern. This engraving, and the bold colour contrast between the platinum front and the bright emeralds, is very typical of jewels of the Art Deco period.
The central diamond has an estimated weight of 0.30 carats, a nice and bright colour (circa H-I), and great clarity (VS).
The Old European-cut is the predecessor of our modern round brilliant-cut, and was often used in jewels of circa 1900 to 1930. It is very similar in shape, but has a higher crown, a thinner girdle, and an extra facet on the tip of the diamond, which is known as the culet and can be seen through the table of the stone.
