This pearl sautoir necklace is very typical for the Art Deco era. The term sautoir is used for a long necklace that suspends a tassel or ornament, and although necklaces that would fit the criteria for a sautoir have existed throughout history, they were especially popular in the first quarter of the 20th Century.
This particular example is made from tiny beaded natural seed pearls which have been strung in a woven pattern. The ends are terminated by two elements made from gold and silver and studded with old mine-cut and rose-cut diamonds. The seed pearl tassel hangs from a silver embellishment, studded with a rose-cut diamond.
