This bar brooch is made from 14k yellow gold with a platinum front, as was typical for its era. It is set with a combination of Old European-Cut and rose-cut diamonds, with the central stone weighing circa 0.36 carats. All diamonds have combined have an estimated weight of 0.80 carats, are H-I in colour and range between VS/SI in quality.
In the 1920s, during the rise of the Art Deco movement, 'white jewellery' was very fashionable, but making a completely platinum jewel was difficult and expensive. Therefore, jewels would often be made from gold and be topped with platinum, creating the desired look with more ease. The fluent lines of its design, and the bold colour contrast between the diamonds and the emerald, are typical of the early Art Deco era, in which platinum would stay an important material.
