This sterling silver waxing seal holder is the perfect accessory for everyone who still enjoys sending handwritten letters! It is a nice, hefty accessory, with the grip decorated with an intricate scroll pattern.
It proved difficult to find waxing seal sticks of 8x8 mm: I had a tiny piece of an antique wax stick in my collection, which will be part of this sale. This holder will also fit the standard round 7mm wax seal sticks that can be bought easily online: one of these will also be included in this sale.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Size: 6 cm long, 17 mm in diameter. The holder is suited for waxing sticks of 8x8 mm.
Weight: 46.50 grams.
Age: Hallmarked for Birmingham and 1901. The maker's mark is partially faded, but could read 'L&S' for Levi & Salaman, who operated between 1876 and 1916.
Material: Hallmarked for 925/1000 (Sterling) silver.
Condition: In great antique condition with only minor wear, consistent with age. There is still a little red sealing wax visible inside the holder.
