This 19th-century silver box was once likely part of a lady's chatelaine, a girdle hook that contained several handy items for everyday use. It is decorated with black enamel on both sides, and the inside has been gilded.

It was made by Jules Auguste Peroulx (also known as Peyroula), who worked in both gold and silver and specialized in lacquer and enamel. He mostly created boxes, vanity cases, and smoker's articles, and also produced items for prominent houses like Cartier, Tiffany, and Van Cleef & Arpels.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Size: 22 mm in diameter, excluding the jump ring.

Weight: 9.85 grams

Age: Late 19th Century to early 20th Century, circa 1900s.

Material: Hallmarked with a French boar's head hallmark for 800/1000 silver, used from 1838 to 1962. The inside of the box is also stamped with a maker's mark for Jules Auguste Peyroulx (1868-1945).

Condition: In good antique condition with only minor signs of wear, consistent with age. The enamel is still in great condition. I suspect that the sides were originally gilded too, since faint traces of gilding are still visible.

Please note that the antique box and necklace are for display purposes. This shop is based in the EU. Although antiques are exempt from taxes in most countries, buyers from outside the EU might be subject to import taxes.
