This charming ring is set with seven cushion-shaped antique diamonds, which have been faceted in a shape that we diamond nerd refer to as the Peruzzi-cut.
The Peruzzi-cut was likely invented in Venice in the 17th Century and remained popular up till the 18th Century. Because the cuts were done entirely by hand, no two Peruzzi diamonds are identical. Each stone reflects the skill and artistry of the cutter who faceted it more than 300 years ago.
Although the Peruzzi cut shares similarities with other antique diamond shapes, it has several distinctive features. When viewed through the table, the facet arrangement creates a striking Maltese cross pattern, one of the easiest visual clues that a diamond belongs to this early brilliant style. Also, the diamonds tend to be quite deep, with the crown and pavilion often nearly equal in height. This gives the stone a tall profile compared with modern brilliant cuts.
These particular stones range in estimated weight from 0.12 to 0.25 carats, with a combined estimated weight of 1.20 carats. They have a beautiful colour (H-I) and, like a lot of antique diamonds, range in clarity from SI to pique.
