This 18k yellow gold crescent moon-shaped brooch is set with eleven oval-cut natural sapphires, and twenty rose-cut diamonds. All gemstones have been placed in open settings, allowing light to pass through.
The Victorian era (1837-1901) was a time in which symbolism was used often in jewellery designs. The crescent moon was one of the most popular designs used since it symbolised not only the cycles of nature and time, but also the female body and femininity.
