These earrings are what the French refer to as a 'marriage', or the joining of two seperate parts. I had the delicate 18k yellow gold canetille drops for years, and finally found the perfect pair of earrings to combine them with.
Originally, these small round earrings, set with a rose-cut garnet encircled by a halo of cannetille work, would have been worn with a removable drop. I therefore believe that by combining these elements, I am merging them back into how they would have been worn originally.
This style of earrings is called 'Day to Night', because drops can easily be removed, making them wearable in two ways.
The hook earrings are fashioned in a way that was typical for the 19th Century, with a tension hook that fastens in the front, which threads through your lobe from the back to the front.
