This 14k yellow gold crescent moon-shaped brooch is alternately set with cushion-cut natural rubies and rose-cut diamonds, the largest, oval rose-cut measuring 6.5x5.3 mm. All gemstones have been set in closed settings.
The Victorian era (1837-1901) was a time in which symbolism was often used in jewellery designs. The crescent moon was one of the most popular designs used since it symbolised not only the cycles of nature and time, but also the female body and femininity. Therefore, this brooch in the shape of a young moon is a very typical example of the jewellery worn in this era.
