Bow shaped brooches have been popular since the 17th Century. This 14k gold brooch is a lovely example, which has been fitted with a drop that can also be removed and word seperately.
The centre of its design is set with a cushion-cut natural pale pink sapphire weighing circa 0.70 carats. The detachable drop is set with a cushion-cut natural pale yellow sapphire weighing circa 1.25 carats. The bow is further set with a combination of three cushion-cut paste stones and 22 rose-cut diamonds.
Since the settings of the three paste gems remarkably do not show any sign of replacement, that they were set intentionally, maybe because no diamonds of this size were available.
