This 18k yellow gold ring is set with a scarab beetle, carved from lapis lazuli, encircled by a halo of rose-cut diamonds.
Scarab beetles were holy animals in Ancient Egypt. The beetle was one of their most popular amulets because the insect was a symbol of the sun god Ra.
The rediscovery of Egyptian treasures and monuments in the early 19th Century created the first wave of Egyptian-inspired designs. However, the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922 unleashed a renewed craze for everything Egyptian, thereby greatly influencing art, architecture, and fashion for the remainder of the 20th Century.
