This lovely Toi et Moi ring is set with a combination of different coloured zircons: a large yellow and orange coloured round-cut zircon are set at the centre, flanked by two smaller zircons that are green and blue, and eight light blue zircons complete the shank.
Zircon is often confused with synthetic cubic zirconia (CZ), but is in fact a natural gemstone available in a variety of colors, as can be seen in this design. Zircon is in fact, the oldest material on Earth, dating back over 4.4 billion years. Their high refractive index - or in layman's terms, the way they reflect light out of the stone - makes their brilliance comparable to diamonds.
'Toi et Moi' means you and me in French and refers to a ring set with two stones set at an angle of each other - often two diamonds, but Toi et Moi rings also exist with sapphires, pearls, or a different combination of gemstones. This design was a typical engagement ring during the late 19th and early 20th Century, symbolizing two intertwined souls. Napoleon Bonaparte famously gifted his Josephine with a diamond and sapphire Toi et Moi engagement ring.
