This oval cameo is carved in banded white, black, and brown sardonyx and depicts a portrait of a bearded Greek warrior, wearing a plumet helmet.
I suspect that this warrior is the famed Achilles, the central hero in Homer's epic poem, The Iliad. This poem, which is read and enjoyed to this day, details the final years of the Trojan war, culminating in Achilles's tragic death by Paris's arrow in the heel.
