In the early 19th Century, letters were often sealed with hot wax. This 19th-century wax seal fob has a spinner wheel that provides its owner with six different seals to choose from, and a jump ring on top, making it wearable as a pendant.
The seals depict the following:
- 'WE MAY BE HAPPY YET' (A line from an opera song 'The Daughter of St. Mark').
- A thistle: DINNA FORGET
- A pansee: FORGET ME NOT
- ALL'S WELL
- An eye (of the Almighty): May it watch over you
- A ship in stormy waters 'Such is life'
All mottos are depicted in mirror image, making them readable when pressed in hot wax: please note that I have flipped the images of the intaglios to make them readable.
