The crowned heart symbol has been used to express love and fidelity since the 17th Century, with its literal meaning of the crowned heart symbol could be translated to 'let love rule' or 'Love Rules All'.
This particular example is centered by a rose-cut diamond ring in a silver, rub-over setting. The crown is set with two flat-cut garnets, and table-cut diamond. The two tiny pansee flowers on the shoulders - a symbol of remembrance - are also set with tiny rose-cut diamonds.
Orginally, the sides of the shank and even the back of the heart were decorated with white, black, and blue enamel. Traces of these colours are still visible.
