This bracelet is fitted with seven barrel-shaped banded agates of different varieties.
Its design is typical for Scottish jewellery of the 19th Century, which consisted of either silver or gold pieces set with semi-precious gemstones such as agates, malachite, and jasper, which were often carved or faceted into intricate shapes.
However, it is not certain that this bracelet was indeed made in Scotland. After Queen Victoria fell in love with Scottish jewels and started wearing them frequently from the 1850s onwards, the general public also wanted to wear Scottish-inspired jewels. This prompted the making of similar-looking jewels in the whole of the United Kingdom.
