This 14k gold ring has an open-worked marquise-shaped silver front, which is set with several rose-cut diamonds, the largest measuring 4.5 x 3.5 mm.
Traditionally, diamonds were set in silver to enhance their colour and brilliance. The rest of the jewel would be made from gold, which added sturdiness and prevented the silver from tarnishing and potentially staining skin or clothing.
